Heather Unbehaun, is now being held in the Kane County Adult Justice Center in Illinois on accusations of kidnapping without the possibility of release on bond.
The case started on July 4, 2017, when Kayla, who was nine years old at the time, was allegedly kidnapped by Unbehaun after she went to a parade in the Chicago neighborhood of South Elgin.
When Unbehaun told Ryan Iserka, Kayla’s custodial father, that they were going camping after the parade, things took a bad turn.
Since Unbehaun and Kayla did not return, a felony warrant was issued for Unbehaun’s arrest on suspicion of abduction.
The case’s turning point came when a watchful Asheville resident identified Kayla from a parental kidnapping episode of Netflix’s.
