An shocked contestant on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire is taken aback when, when using Phone a Friend to reach his wife, a man answers the phone.

Under all these spotlights, with Jeremy Clarkson interrogating you, and with money on the line, things are becoming very hot right now.

But supposing an unidentified guy answers the phone when you call your wife? The very thought of that must be making your head spin.

Only on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire could something like this take happened. or maybe in a surreal dream where I’m asking questions.

Clarkson was taken aback by what happened next: the contestant used his Phone a Friend tool to contact his wife, and a man answered.

Contestant JP Hogan called his girlfriend in 2020 while appearing on the ITV show.

After making some headway, the Lincoln science instructor hit a roadblock with an ambiguous question that, had he persisted, would have yielded £16,000.

“Which of these days is part of the weekend in Germany?” Asks Clarkson.

Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, or Sunday were Hogan’s options. It was Sonntag, incidentally.

To make things worse, he is utterly confused since he teaches physics and not languages.

But his wife had been to Germany several times, and he had a cousin who had lived there for almost fifty years; it was his only chance.

“My wife, who at different times would probably have been in the audience, is at home as one of my Phone a Friends.”

In order to make the most of that chance, he phoned his partner Elizabeth, hoping that she might provide him some assistance.

A male voice came on the other end of the line as Clarkson asked Hogan if he wanted him to keep her apprised of his progress as the studio’s dial tone started to ring; they both recoiled in shock.

The host of Top Gear told the gamer, “That was a man who just answered your phone…,” after the latter felt uneasy listening to a few male-voiced statements.

Just say it! It might be completely benign.

Elizabeth made the stupid mistake of answering the phone and said, “Hello?” as Clarkson, Hogan, and the audience waited impatiently for her to return.

After the host asked, she made sure there were other people around her.

Who was the man who took JP’s call to his wife’s number? While taking a break, one social media user asked the question. Is Becoming a Multi-Millionaire Your Goal?

Yet another person realised that there was really a completely innocuous reason behind the Phone a Friend incident.

They said the man stating “sorry there is no service” was really an automated voice. To Jeremy, having an affair was all in good fun.

Some have speculated that Elizabeth meant that a show staffer was keeping tabs on her to make sure she didn’t cheat by searching up Hogan’s answer on Google.

Fortunately, the contestant maintained concentration and won £64,000 before leaving the show.
