Losing a parent is one of the worst things that can happen to a person, especially when they are young, because it can have a profound emotional impact on their upbringing. A photo from a funeral in the Philippines went viral for the saddest reason ever. The child got up in the middle of the service, walked to their mother’s coffin, and put their ear close to it. Then, they turned to the other attendees and whispered one word that made everyone in the church FLASH.

Everyone’s hearts were broken when a young child’s mother passed away and, during the funeral, he climbed her coffin one last time and placed his head on it for a final embrace.

At one point, he turned to face the audience and asked, “Why doesn’t Mommy sleep next to me anymore?” These words felt like a sharp knife; how can one respond to such a difficult question and explain to a child that their mom will never return?

The child’s anguish and confusion were reflected in the innocence of that question, and it was heartbreaking.
