The Unintentional Adult Content Advertisement on Mattel Product Packaging

A “Wicked” major issue has arisen for Mattel: the company attached a URL to the back of their Elphaba and Glinda dolls, which, as it turns out, leads to a pretty explicit website.

Let me explain it to you. The toy business is heavily marketing dolls with characters from the film adaptation of the Broadway show, with a particular focus on the two lead witches.

The dolls’ backs have a URL to “www.wicked.com” — not the company’s website, but just in case the buyers are interested in purchasing additional dolls. Looks like a porn site!

Mattel’s toy catalog website is “www.wickedmovie.com”—a little error that might have serious repercussions for every child who has accidentally visited the site.

Clearly, many parents are furious on the internet, but it’s more likely that their kid accidently visited the site than the other way around.

Mattel is aware of the error, which was made mostly on dolls sold in the US, according to a representative who spoke with TMZ. They are taking measures to prevent future dolls from having the wrong URL printed on their backs, and they sincerely apologize for the mistake.
